WHO ARE WE?

We are a non profit organization and our main objective is to provide support for newcomers from Brazil living in British Columbia through integration courses, to assist them with employment, settlement, and language courses, and also to share with the Canadian public, the rich culture, language, music, and food the Brazilian culture has to offer.

BCA’s COMMUNITY CENTRE LOCATION AND OPERATON HOURS

Our community centre is located at #201 – 3110 Boundary Road, Burnaby, BC, V5M 4A2 . We are open Monday to Thursday, from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm and Saturdays from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm.

 

 

ACTIVITIES & PROJECTS:

  • Portuguese Language Courses for Adults  - Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced. Weekdays, evening time and Saturdays in the morning. During Fall, Winter and Spring.
  • Portuguese Language Course for kids  (4 to 8 years old) – Saturdays 10:00 am to 12:00 .  During Fall, Winter and Spring.
  • Basic ESL for newcomers . During Fall, Winter and Spring.
  • Capoeira Classes “The Brazilian Martial Art” : all ages. Weekdays at Evening  time. During Fall, Winter and Spring.
  • Brazilian Rhythms Dance Classes : All ages: Starting next Fall.
  • Seminars. Fall/Winter and Spring.
  • BCA Public Library – Brazilian Books.
  • Guardian Angel Project – Support for newcomers.
  • Brazilian Heritage Music Project – reunion of Musicians playing and singing Brazilian Music at the Community Centre. ( Fall/ Winter and Spring)

 

 

EVENTS:

  • BCA ANNUAL SUMMER PIC NIC

What better way to enjoy the summer than to spend it with our community!

Come join us for a day of sun, beach, food, and friends! The event is FREE, but everyone should contribute with a dish to serve at least 15 people. Bring games, instruments, sports equipment (fresco ball, soccer ball, volleyball, etc.)

When: June 28th, Sunday (weather dependent)

Time: starting at 10:00 am

Where: Kitslano Beach City: Vancouver, BC Details: Kitsilano Point (at the end of Kits beach, passing the Waterfront Restaurant and the basketball courts - from Cornwall, follow pedestrian path until the end of the beach's sand area)

Who: Everyone who wants to join BCA members and friends in this fun event.

  • 1ST MEETING OF BCBG – BRAZIL CANADA BUSINESS GROUP.

BCA would like to invite you to attend a Breakfast for the “1º Meeting  of Entrepreneurs - Brazil Canada Business Group”.

When: July 4th, Saturday

Time: 9:00 am to 11:00 am

  • BRAZILIAN AND CARIBBEAN DAY AT THE CHINESE ARTS & CULTURE FESTIVAL

When: July 11th

Time:  1:00 pm to 4 pm

Where: Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Courtyard – Chinatown – Vancouver, BC

What: Capoeira Presentation and Maculele ( Brazilian Heritage Dance) with GROUP CAPOEIRA MALES following with Samba Band and Brazilian Carnaval Dancers.

  • CARIBBEAN DAYS FESTIVAL

When: July 25th

Time: morning and afternoon. Parade with Brazilian Group starting at 9am and Samba Presentation on the Stage in the afternoon.

Where: Waterfront Park, North Vancouver, BC

Opportunities Available:

1)     3 Positions as Event Coordinators for the upcoming Summer PIC NIC. Please contact Larissa Prairie at lprairie@gmail.com

2)     BCA Samba Band: We need VOLUNTEERS to be part of THE BCA SAMBA BAND. if you know how to play samba instruments such as Tambourim (or Tam), Agogo Bells, Snare, Gansa/Chocalho - Shakers, Repenique (or Rep, pronounced "Hep", Surdo etc..and you want to help the Brazilian Community Association, you are welcome to be our volunteer!!! RENTAL FACILITIES

Our Community Centre has 2 rooms available for rentals. Brazil Room (35 seating / 80 standing) and Cultural Room ( 20 seating/ 45 standing). We also rent the whole facility including kitchen, washrooms and the two rooms for Events such as Seminars, Workshops, Showers, Birthdays, Business Meetings, Meet up Groups and more.
